Williams Continues To Roll In Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series At Can-Am!

LaFargeville, NY - October 3, 2007 - By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

Joe Williams continues to dominate the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series as he posted his sixth feature win in the past eight tour races on Wednesday night in the Super DIRT Week special at Can-Am Motorsports Park. The Scotia, N.Y. driver increased his points lead in the overall Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman standings with his second tour win at Can-Am in less than three weeks.

Dan Wiesner held on for second to gain an automatic starting assignment in the Super DIRT Week Town Mechanical 30 scheduled this coming Saturday at the New York State Fairgrounds, while Can-Am points champion Chris Higgins, Mr. DIRT points runner-up Chris Hile and Jim LaRock filled out the front-five.

"We've been pretty good in the Series so far I guess," downplayed Williams, following a tour-best eighth top-five finish in the 10 races held to date. After recently matching Tim Hindley's mark of four straight tour triumphs, Williams' latest victory ties him with both Hindley (1996) and Matt Sheppard (2000) for most series wins in a single season. "I came down with a fever and a case of the flu so the crew took care of the care this week. This car has just unbelievable power, the Groski motor has been a big difference this season."

When Williams last visited Can-Am he started sixth and needed just two laps to grab the lead from Jack Meeks with the help of a pair of lap one red flags. This time around he filed into 10th on the 30-car grid and blasted by early leader Wiesner on lap seven for the final exchange up front.

This time the race was stopped after Williams moved to the point. A spectacular double flip in turn two ended the night for Christine Martin and Kevin Gamble with a red flag stopping the early race action on lap 11. At the halfway mark Williams maintained a comfortable advantage over Wiesner, Higgins, Hile and second-generation star Tyler McPherson from Canada. That order stayed the same until the closing circuits when LaRock slipped past McPherson to score his first tour top-five of the season.
