Over $66k Up For Grabs at 8th annual Atlantic Stock Car Championships in Shediac ACT driver Patrick LaPerle will compete
October 3, 2007 Shediac (N.B.) - The CENTRE for Speed is pleased to announce its largest ever purse for the 8th annual Pepsi Atlantic Stock Car Championships - Speed Weekend 07 on October 6 & 7. Over $66,800 in payouts will be available for the expected 150 competitors in Pro Stock, Sportsman, Streetstock, 4 cylinder TigerCat and Thundercat events during this upcoming weekend.
Two feature events will highlight the Atlantic Stock Car Championships with the Pepsi Pro Stock 250 as well as the Vance Hanes Auto Parts Sportsman 100 both on October 6th, starting at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 7th, the CFS will present the Monster Energy Street Stock 100 as well as two 50-lap features for 4-cylinder TigerCat (over 100 hp) and Thundercat (under 100 hp) racecars also starting at 1:00 p.m.
The weekend will attract many top drivers from throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the state of Maine. The Pepsi Pro Stock 250 will feature this year's American Canadian Tour (ACT) 'Super Series' Champion, Patrick LaPerle from St. Denis, Québec competing against the best Pro Stock racers from our region. LaPerle will be driving a car prepared by veteran driver Frank Fraser of Shubenacadie, N.S., a racecar builder and regular Pro Stock competitor. Fraser will also be competing in the Pepsi Pro Stock 250.
Also on hand will be past winners of the event, John Fleming of Halifax and Kirk Thibeau of Fort Fairfield, Maine, as well as top regional Pro Stock competitors such as Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, Glenn Rasmussen of Fredericton, George Koskulics of New Glasgow, N.S. and Rollie MacDonald of Pictou, N.S. Over 32 Pro Stock drivers are expected to compete for positions on the starting grid for the Pepsi Pro Stock 250 on October 6th.
Also on Saturday, a total of over 40 of the Maritimes top Sportsman drivers are expected to battle for positions on the starting grid for the Vance Hanes Auto Parts Atlantic Sportsman Championship 100. Track champions, past champions and top competitors from most of the stock car tracks in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are expected to make the trek to Shediac for the 100 lap feature.
On Sunday, Oct. 7th, top track drivers in the Streetstock and 4 cylinder divisions will also compete in individual Atlantic Championship features namely the Monster Energy Streetstock 100 and 50-lap main events for the other divisions.
Friday afternoon and evening on October 5th will feature practices for all divisions as well as a pit party. Weekend passes for adults will be sold for $40 while a youth weekend pass will go for $15. On Saturday October 6th, individual day passes will be $30 for adults and $10 for youths while day passes for the October 7th races will be $15 for adults and $5 for youths. October 8th has been reserved as a rain date for either event.
The CENTRE for Speed is a 128-acre motor sports park which includes a 3/8th mile stock car oval and several other racing facilities. The facility overlooks the Northumberland Straight and is located 5 kms east of Shediac's Parlee Beach in the village of Grand Barachois, New Brunswick.
